Ph. D. Admission

National Institute of Plant Genome Research, is an Autonomous Research Institution, funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and conducts basic and applied research in the frontier areas of plant biology. The Institute invites online applications from candidates who have completed or will be completing M.Sc. or equivalent degree (by August 31, 2024) in Life Sciences and/or in related disciplines with minimum 55% marks [a relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, will be allowed for those belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and PWD, or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991], and have cleared the CSIR-UGC NET/DBT-JRF (selected through BET/BINC) exam for JRF (with a Junior Research Fellowship activation valid up to December 31, 2024) or with DST-INSPIRE Fellowship for pursuing full-time Ph.D. program, for conducting advanced research in the frontier areas of Plant Biology such as, Developmental Biology, Genome Analysis and Molecular Mapping, Molecular Mechanism of Abiotic Stress Responses, Plant-Microbe/Insect Interactions and Plant Immunity, Nutritional Genomics, Genetic Engineering, Genome Editing and Molecular Breeding for Crop Improvement, Computational Biology and other emerging areas in the field. Reservations are as per statutory norms. The selection will be made on the basis of interview/Viva-Voce.

• 27% for OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 10% for EWS and 5% for person with disability (PWD) as per the reservation policy of the Government of India (with minimum disability to the extent of 40%) in pursuance of Provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.


• Reservation of 5% seats in respect of PWD candidates shall be done horizontally, as per the Government of India Guidelines/Policy.


• All SC/ST/OBC/EWS and PWD candidates are required to submit a certificate in respect of their claims from the authorized officers as notified by the Government of India for the purpose from time to time.

The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D. program in academic affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. NIPGR will provide hostel accommodation to selected candidates (subject to availability). The following important dates may be noted:
