However, a high intake of broccoli is needed to get these benefits, and its cultivation faces genetic and environmental limitations.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>To address this, BRIC-NIPGR researchers have developed <strong>transgene-free Indian<br \/>mustard <\/strong>(<em>Brassica juncea<\/em>) lines using <strong>CRISPR\/Cas9<\/strong>-mediated knockout of the<br \/><em>ALKENYL HYDROXALKYL PRODUCING 2 (<strong>AOP2<\/strong>)<\/em> gene family, leading to <strong>high<br \/>glucoraphanin accumulation (up to 75 PPM in microgreens)<\/strong>. These mustard lines<br \/>also have reduced harmful glucosinolates and could serve as <strong>a new generation of<br \/>superfood<\/strong>, with potential <strong>anti-cancer and chemopreventive benefits<\/strong>.
